Massage
Deep massage helps relieve muscle tension
and prepares the area for further joint
mobilisation techniques. Working on very
tender trigger points within muscle can
ease pain and relax muscles associated with
neck and back pain.
Manipulation
Manipulation is used to restore normal joint
mobility either in the spine or peripheral
joints. This can be graded quite gently
or more vigorously depending on the nature
of the condition and the individual themselves.
Exercise
Exercise plays a key role in rehabilitation
enabling clients to manage their own condition.
By doing appropriate strengthening and stretching
exercises many problems can be alleviated
and improved. We also offer Pilates classes
on site, which focus on core stability,
which is integral to maintaining a healthy
spine.
Electrotherapy
All usual electrotherapy modalities are
available: ultrasound, interferential, megapulse,
TENS, hotpacks.
Acupuncture
Acupuncture is used as an adjunct to our
normal physiotherapy treatments to help
with pain relief.
Ultrasound
Scanning
In the past 8-10years with the advantage
of new technology ultrasound has been used
to visualise soft tissues such as muscles
and ligaments. Prior to this it was only
possible to see deeper structures.
We use ultrasound for 2 purposes.
1. As a biofeedback tool to
help patients learn the correct contraction
of the deep abdominal muscles. This is important
in the treatment and prevention of low back
pain.
2. To ascertain if there is
rupture of tendons e.g. around the shoulder
or in the Achilles tendon. If there is evidence
of serious damage then it is often more
appropriate to refer patients on to a consultant
than treat with physiotherapy
Extracorporeal
Shockwave therapy (ESWT)
ESWT is based on Lithotripsy, which has
been used for many years in the treatment
of kidney stones. It is the delivery of
high-energy shockwaves through the tissues
that are capable of breaking down calcific
deposits. It has now been adapted to treat
various problems within soft tissues, which
have proved resistant to more conventional
methods of treatment.
Conditions, which are appropriate,
are calcification of supraspinatus, tennis
elbow, Achilles tendonitis, plantar fascitis
and patellar tendonitis.
It is a useful option when
all else has failed, physiotherapy, injections
or even surgery.
Injections
Steroid
Injections can be administered on site with
the co-operation of your GP. Common areas
for injection are the shoulder, frozen shoulder
or rotator cuff tendonitis, tennis elbow,
bursitis, osteoarthritis, plantar fascitis,
tenosynovitis.
We have an arrangement with
a large group of local GP’s to do injections
on their patients as requested so there
is little waiting especially if you are
in severe pain.
Hyalgan
Hyaluronic acid is present in synovial fluid
in your joints but is continuously broken
down and replaced. As you get older this
process is disturbed -and along with other
processes leads to the joint cartilage wearing
and subsequent osteoarthritis. This manifests
itself as pain, stiffness and swelling particularly
in weight bearing joints of the knees and
hips.
Hyalgan is a solution containing
hyaluronic acid, which is injected into
the joint to restore the normal balance
of the synovial fluid and decrease pain
and stiffness in the joint.
Golf
Screening
As well as treating golfers with injuries
we also offer a golf-screening programme
which is designed to improve your golf by
identifying specific areas of physical conditioning
to enhance performance.
We have invested in video
analysis equipment and have the GASP programme
which is what the golf professionals use
to analyse your swing.
We have developed a close
working relationship with Richard Gilling
at THE GOLF SCHOOL, Altrincham Golf Range
0161 927 7504 and are currently collaborating
with him on golf fitness.
We will also liase with your
golf professional if you wish.
